Google Browser?

Just read over at Blogoscoped.com about google’s latest tilt at worl^H^H^Hinternet domination.

Apparently they have a browser project in the works codenamed Google Chrome – but blogoscoped tells it far better than I can, so pop on over and have a read.

UPDATE: (Sept 4th) Go grab yourself a copy from Googles front page – I won’t bother with a link as you’ll likely have a different localised one to me.

DNS Problems – Patch Now.

This, thankfully, doesn’t affect me or anything I look after.

However, I imagine that some of the larger Churches out there will be running their own DNS systems that are likely to be affected. Long and short, whether your DNS is Unix, MS or some other variant you need to patch it and now.

For those, like me, whom want the details then go here:

http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/800113 or

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms08-037.mspx

If you want some background info, then take a wander over to Arbor Networks take on it or even go and hear from the man behind DNS, Paul Mockapetris, over at Network World which may require you to create a free account before reading.

Software for Networked PCs

I know how I want to protect my own and my family’s PCs.

I know what software I trust (and how this changes over the years) and what can be a resource hog. I know how often I want to scan my PC for malware, rootkits, etc and then I know that those I support aren’t as technically aware as myself and often I need reconsider what I use to protect them and then wonder if I am going far enough or too far? (more…)
