Well sort of ….

Ribbon_Bar_Control

So be truthful, who really likes this abomination that is supposed to be an upgrade and intuitive?

I admit I’m a creature of habit with certain things and whilst one expects interface changes with newer versions of software, one doesn’t really expect to have to re-learn how to use the software from scratch!

This is certainly how I felt when I upgraded at home to Office 2007 and then my works place did the same a day or so later. I felt like a fish out of water but now I have the solution.

Two of them…..

The first is a bit of a potch and takes time to get it as you want. The second is neat and doesn’t take long at all.

Option 1:

  1. Right click anywhere on the ribbon bar and select “Minimize the Ribbon Bar
  2. Then right click anywhere on the Menu Bar and select “Show Quick Access Toolbar below the Ribbon
  3. Next customize the quick access toolbar by right clicking on the remaining minimised menu bar.
  4. Select the commands / tools you want quick access to.
  5. Finally click OK.

Option 2:

Pay a visit to UBit.ch and download their UbitMenu – close any open Office 2007 app, install it and then re-open. You now have an all new item second tab in on the ribbon.

Click on Menu and hey presto your old style Office menu is back (albeit with a small advert for UBit), but you still have the added benefits (!) of the ribbon.

Enjoy – I know I’m happier!
