Where Tech meets Church

If only for my own benefit I’m going to start a series on security tweets.
It’ll be an adhoc series but will basically include anything that has caught my eye and may also include some additional commentary from me. Anyway, tweets after the jump.

For those of you unaware of whom Paul Steinbrueck is then let me direct you at his homes on the web. His main home is OurChurch.com which he started in 1996 with his brother and then there’s his Live Intentionally blog.
Anyway, my thanks to Paul for his time in answering my standard set of questions. Answers after the jump.

Lee over at ScamTypes has written a very good post about protecting our kids.
The one bit of advice I disagreed with is:
Whilst I think this is an important part of their development you may feel that you would like to keep an eye on them all the same, perhaps without them being aware of that fact.
If so then software such as Win-Spy Pro is what you will need as it affords the opportunity to remotely view another computer.
This includes what is viewed on their screen as well as what they type.
The program cannot be deleted or stopped by your kids and they will almost certainly be unaware if it is installed on their system.
You can even use the program to control a nearby webcam to see exactly what your child is doing!
Spying isn’t cool but sometimes its necessary to ensure the safety of those we love.

I’ve had my iPhone 3GS for precisely two days now.
In that time I have spent a good number of minutes searching for a way to have my iPhone utilise multiple computers without the dreaded “is synched with another computer” pop up message.
Well I’ve found the answer now and it is just so easy… I can also see this being useful for those rare situations where you have more than 5 computers you want to sync with. Which, if you didn’t know, is the limit put on your device by itunes… grrr.
Anyway, you can find the full details over at iSmashPhone.com – just click the link.

Do you suffer with writers block?
Do you struggle to get your words out and put forward your ideas or is it just because you can’t find the topics to blog about? In this post I want to present some ideas and links for helping you overcome your blocks.
My problem is topic ideas. What to write about. I started this blog with the grand idea of helping other Church Techies out and that still remains – but I can only take it as far as my own experience and knowledge have reached. Equally, I may have gone through an experience but at the time of wanting to write it doesn’t spring to mind.

A good friend sent me this in email – the only change is I’ve edited it to make it more readable on screen. I have seen it before but I think it worth immortalising (sort of) on my blog … and let me add, if you don’t fit the age bracket then don’t get mad but celebrate that we survived!
To Those of Us Born 1930 – 1979
No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us,
WE ARE AWESOME !!!!
OUR LIFE IS LIVING PROOF !!!!
At the end of this post is a quote by Jay Leno… If you don’t read anything else, please read what he said.
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930′s, 40′s, 50′s, 60′s and 70′s!!

Here’s a fab tool – if you’ve an iPhone that is …
From their own blurb:
Here is what you’ll be able to do with the iPhone app:
- Listen to any Mars Hill sermon available on marshillchurch.org
- Watch any Mars Hill sermon video
- Stream any Mars Hill music
- Email sermon links to your friends
- Give to the mission of Mars Hill
- Stay informed and up to date through the blog
- Get campus locations and listings
And whilst I’m sure they don’t need me to promote it I am …

Twitter is only as useful as the people you follow.
Or put another way – you’re only going to get out to the effort you put in. In this case you need to put some effort into finding folks to follow and whilst I’m certain there are many posts about this topic but here’s mine …
First you need to decide on a twitter strategy.
A what I hear you cry? A strategy. Is your use of twitter going to be for business, for promotion, for fun, for networking, and so on. It can of course cover multiple areas but you need to have a clear aim in mind and set out to find folks that fit that aim.
So, let me present you with some suggestions:
Of course one guaranteed way to get followers is to be known for something. Be it as an author, actor, expert, etc. One thing I have found is that if I follow someone, then unless they are ultra famous they will follow me back.
Enjoy.
