I’ve been taken to task for part copying a post from another site. The phase used was “only done in a less interesting way”. The reality is I re-worded it but copied some of the facts and figures!

OK, fair criticsm say I, so I rejoined by stating that not everyone that reads my blog reads the other one and that I had included links to it anyway. I also quite clearly stated at the start whom the facts were from and then again at the end I stated “that full facts and figures are here”.

I then asked the anonymous submitter what they wanted (I even have a suggestions tab on the right hand side) as we bloggers get accused of either not providing enough / providing too much / or plagiarising.  Which I thought was a reasonable request when you consider that this person has elected to hide behind a cloak but then have a pop at me.

Well they came back and then claimed I hadn’t even bothered to include a link to the original article and so they did it for me. OK, I admit I’m not a coder, but then anybody who reads this blog knows that and I apologised for the fact that my links were almost identical in colour to the text. My answer has been to make them bold so that they stand out a bit more – but for that particular post I’d forgotten. However, one only had to read the actual words to realise there are links in the text and if the anonymous critique had bothered, then they would have realised that.

So now I’ve dug into my code and found the bit I need to change so all my links are now red. Should make him / her happy. But equally probably not.

I could so easily have deleted the comments and nobody would have been the wiser – but when I started this blog I was determined to allow all comments unless they were unwarranted attacks or spam – so there they stand.

Anyway, just out of interest, how do you handle criticism?
